Toowoomba and USQ offer students all the benefits of a city environment while providing an opportunity to experience regional Australia. The relatively small on-campus population means that you will make friends easily and that the teaching staff is readily available.

Academically, USQ excels. The International Council on Distance and Open Learning voted USQ the best on- and off-campus teaching university in the world in 1999. The University also is consistently voted in the top ten universities in Australia for teaching outcomes and graduate placement.

The University is sensitive to the special needs of its international students. There is a wide range of services to assist you in your adjustment to Australian life. USQ has set up the Toowoomba Committee for International Students (TCIS), a group whose sole purpose is to promote activities and social events for international students.

Academic Programs

Since 1967, the University of Southern Queensland has been offering quality academic courses that are recognized worldwide by other higher education institutions, employers and internationally accredited professional bodies. Undergraduate and graduate students can choose among the six faculties at USQ: Arts, Business, Commerce, Education, Engineering and Surveying and Sciences.

Distance learning is a highly regarded mode of study at USQ. While most of the undergraduate are dual mode programs (on-campus and/or on-line) the majority of postgraduate programs are only available by distance learning. This allows students to study no matter where they are in the world and is ideal for students who wish to work full-time and study part-time. Students receive comprehensive study materials either through the mail or via the Internet. The University maintains a network of Local Support Offices in various countries to assist students in their studies.

For information about admissions requirements at the University of Southern Queensland please see the Undergraduate Admissions and Graduate Admissions pages.

Tuition

The Center for International Studies does not charge for its services in preparing you for studying for a full degree at one of our partner institutions, therefore you will be responsible for paying only the direct fees charged by the university you attend. Unlike U.S. institutions, overseas universities charge different fees for different programs. An example would be that if you are interested in a program in the Humanities you would probably pay less than in the Sciences where lab expenses would be included.

Tuition amounts vary considerably but a range for an undergraduate degree may be between $US10,000 - $US12,00 for non laboratory-based programs and $US15,000 to $US18,000 for laboratory-based programs. Graduate fees can range from $US11,500 - $US17,000 per year (many take only one year). When you request information on a particular university a fee schedule will be provided by CIS. In addition to the tuition fees, you will want to be prepared for the other costs associated with traveling abroad such as travel expenses, meals (if you are not on a meal plan), local transportation, spending money, etc. In addition to the tuition fees, you will want to be prepared for the other costs associated with traveling abroad such as travel expenses, meals (if you are not on a meal plan), local transportation, spending money, etc. To read more about your tuition costs at USQ visit http://www.usq.edu.au/international/progfee/default.htm

Studying in Toowoomba

Toowoomba is a beautiful, nature-filled city situated 90 minutes west of Brisbane, the capital city of the state of Queensland. With a population of nearly 90,000 people, Toowoomba is Australia's second largest inland city after Canberra, the nation's capital. The city sits on the crest of the Great Dividing Range, approximately 1200 feet above sea level, and is renowned for its natural beauty, parks and gardens. Due to its low cost of living, pleasant surroundings, clean air, and safe, friendly atmosphere, Toowoomba is the only city to have been twice voted the best Australian city in which to live.

There are many shopping centers, fine restaurants, cafes and art galleries, where you can spend your spare moments. Because Toowoomba's climate averages 80 degrees Fahrenheit in summer and 62 degrees Fahrenheit in winter, outdoor activities can be enjoyed year round.

You will have access to a full range of facilities, services and activities while at USQ. Twenty-four hour computer labs, health services and personal and academic counseling are just some of the services available to you.
