Tuition

The Center for International Studies does not charge for its services in preparing you for studying for a full degree at one of our partner institutions, therefore you will be responsible for paying only the direct fees charged by the university you attend. Unlike U.S. institutions, overseas universities charge different fees for different programs. An example would be that if you are interested in a program in the Humanities you would probably pay less than in the Sciences where lab expenses would be included.

Tuition amounts vary considerably but a range for an undergraduate degree may be between $US10,000 - $US12,00 for non laboratory-based programs and $US15,000 to $US18,000 for laboratory-based programs. Graduate fees can range from $US11,500 - $US17,000 per year (many take only one year). When you request information on a particular university a fee schedule will be provided by CIS. In addition to the tuition fees, you will want to be prepared for the other costs associated with traveling abroad such as travel expenses, meals (if you are not on a meal plan), local transportation, spending money, etc. For more information about tuition at Murdoch, follow these links:

Studying in Perth

Perth is home to about 1.3 million people. It's nestled on the banks of the Swan River and is an ideal location for study abroad students. Many students say Perth is one of the best aspects of studying at Murdoch University -the people are friendly, the city is safe and clean, it has over 30 miles of white sandy beaches and more hours of sunshine than any other Australian city!

The people of Perth enjoy a largely outdoor lifestyle due to the fact that the climate is one of the best in the world. Because the summers are long and hot, the locals spend much time at one of the many beaches in the metropolitan area. On weekends, they also flock to Fremantle (nicknamed Freo), a thriving historical city close to the Murdoch University campus. Fremantle is well known for its vibrant cappuccino strip, with outdoor cafes, restaurants, pubs, museums, art galleries and flea markets.

Student Life

Upon your arrival, you will be met at Perth Airport and taken to your accommodation choice. As part of your settling in, a carefully structured week-long orientation program will introduce you to the campus, and help enroll you into your program. A very interesting aspect about the student body, is that it is classified as "mature age." Many of the students who attend Murdoch are in their 20's as undergraduates and older for graduate school.

You will be able to become a member of the Student Guild where you can enjoy its many services, such as discounted prices for events and memberships. The Guild also provides a range of other social activities, organizations of bands and many different clubs and societies.

Accommodation

Murdoch University's on-campus student apartments are a friendly residential community situated on the Murdoch Campus. The main advantage to this option is that you will be living only five minutes walk from the library, laboratories and lecture theatres. For graduate students, living on-campus is a good option because Murdoch caters to older students, and you will therefore be paired with a suitable roommate. Off-campus accommodation is also available. More information on accommodation at Murdoch can be found at http://www.murdoch.edu.au/village/ (This page will open in a new window).
