CHECK LIST

Below is a checklist you can use to see where you are in the process of finding and applying to a degree program abroad. Also included are tips for what to do at each step.

Find Your Program

The most important step in applying to and enrolling in a foreign university is researching the programs to which you wish to apply. You can research the universities through our Search for Your Degree page to find a school and program that meets your needs. Here you can search by country, university, degree type and academic area. Click on an institution that meets your criteria to find out more about it. Additionally, if you are more interested in the location, at the top of all of the CIS pages, you can click on the country to learn more about its cultures and customs. Note: when researching programs, be certain that they are "full-time" programs. Often students apply for part-time programs for which they are not eligible due to their international status.

Request Application(s)

Once you have narrowed down your choices of institutions, email CIS to ask any other questions and to request prospectuses with application forms for up to two (2) universities. You can find the request form here.

Complete and Return Application

After receiving the application forms from CIS, complete and return the form(s) back to us. Click here to find helpful instructions on applying to foreign universities. Also, visit the FAQs page as many questions about completing your application will be answered there.

Application Submission

After receiving your complete application, CIS will review it and send it to the university's admissions office for processing. We will follow up with the school and keep in touch with you throughout the process. Be aware that processing time for applications to international universities can take up to 8 weeks.

Notification of Acceptance

Once CIS has received notification from the overseas university that you have been accepted, we will contact you immediately and then send you the appropriate documentation necessary to accept your offer. At this time, if you desire, we can also begin working with you on applying for U.S. Federal Financial Aid to fund your study. Please be aware that this process will take 4 to 6 weeks to complete. For more information about applying for U.S. Federal Financial Aid click here .

Acceptance of Offer

In order for the university to reserve a space for you, you must notify CIS that you intend to accept the offer by reading, signing and returning the Acceptance of Offer form enclosed in your acceptance information packet. Once you have accepted your offer CIS will guide you in coordinating other details such as payment of tuition, accommodation, visa matters, and travel affairs.

Throughout the process, CIS will be the liaison between you and the foreign university. Do not hesitate to contact us at any point along the way for clarification or assistance.
