Below you will find a detailed list of items you will need to include in your application packet as well as information about submitting them. You will also find the application deadlines for our overseas universities.

Application Checklist for Graduate Students

Photocopy of diploma for highest degree received

If you are applying to any New Zealand university please also include:
Notarized copy of your passport
1 Passport size photo

If you are applying to Ph.D. programs or an intensive research master degrees you will also be required to submit a research proposal, which usually is 3-5 pages in length describing the research you plan to undertake. In this essay you can also outline the research you have done in the past in your particular area.

Supporting Documents and Materials
If you are applying to a writing program (creative writing, journalism, etc.) or certain fine arts programs you will need to submit writing samples, published work or samples of your artwork. Simply send these in with your application. For art, you should submit slides of your work or a CD Rom with digital photos. Some applications have a section that ask you to list your supporting documents and you should list the titles of your writing samples or indicate that samples of your artwork are included in the application materials.

Undergraduates Applying to the UK
As you may or may not know, students applying for undergraduate programs in England, Scotland, or Northern Ireland will need to meet the standards of the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) and apply through the UCAS system. This can be done online. CIS will send you detailed information about the online UCAS application once you have decided to apply. Students will need to submit, along with their high school diploma, either Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) scores with a minimum of 550 on each part or grades of 3 and above in at least two Advanced Placement Tests (AP).

Application Deadlines

In the chart below you will find the application deadlines for applying to a degree program overseas through CIS. Keep in mind that for undergraduate degrees most universities in the Northern Hemisphere only offer a fall intake and schools in the Southern Hemisphere only offer a Semester 1 intake. Bond University is an exception in that it offers undergraduate entry in all three of its academic terms*.

* Bond University is an Australian university that has three entries per year which follow a schedule similar to that of universities in the Northern Hemisphere. The third entry is for a summer term (which is a full academic term) starting May 15. The application deadline for this term is January 15.
